Moose Hunting

Moose hunting

Moose hunting is an important part of the lifestyle lead by people in the rural areas. Many inhabitants of Vilhelmina and Storuman hunt moose, in many cases even going so far as to use a week of vacation for it. Moose hunting starts in the first month of September. Passionate hunters refer the hunting period almost as new years eve and start counting their year from that day.

If you don’t have your own forrest, contact a moose hunting team to go hunting. During hunting it is common to use hunting dogs like Swedish Elkhound, Norwegian Greyhound, West Siberian Laika, and Karelian Bear Dog. Certain hunting teams take in guest hunters. Ask in your local town about how they hunt and who you should contact about joining a team.

Other than filling your fridge with ecological meat for the winter, moose hunting contributes to fewer wildlife related road accidents, reduces the chance of mooses overpopulating and assures less grazing damage to the forrest.
